Tulip species garden Northeast Polder

April 17 - May 3

The Noordoostpolder Tulip Species Garden is a truly unique collection of historic and unusual tulip varieties in the heart of the polder. The garden is managed by the Northeast Polder Species Garden Foundation and is committed to preserving valuable tulip heritage.

An important partner in this work is the Hortus Bulborum in Limmen. This historic bulb garden has existed since 1928 and houses an extraordinary collection of ancient bulbous plants, including tulips dating back to the 16th century. The Hortus Bulborum is considered a living gene bank and plays an essential role in the conservation of historical varieties.

Together strong for heritage
The Northeast Polder Tulip Species Garden collaborates with the Hortus Bulborum. A so-called shadow collection is being established in the Northeast Polder. This spreads cultivation risks and keeps the genetic heritage of rare historical tulips better protected.

This collaboration enhances the scientific and cultural-historical value of both initiatives. At the same time, it contributes to biodiversity and disease resistance within tulip cultivation.

Visit and experience
During the Tulip Festival Noordoostpolder, the Tulip Species Garden is a very special place to discover the wealth of shapes, colours and stories behind the tulip. Here you will not only experience flowering, but also history!

Guided tours are provided to groups by appointment.
