Tulip species garden

Henk van Drie's tulip species garden
Henk van Drie from Emmeloord is a tulip enthusiast at heart. He has been collecting tulips in his variety garden for 35 years. He now has almost 2,000 varieties. These are planted and lifted by hand every year. Henk is now assisted by a group of enthusiastic volunteers.
The species garden features new but also very old unique varieties. A very old tulip, for example, is Lac van Rijn. Baptised in 1620, this tulip has flowered more than 400 times. You will also come across about 100 so-called primal tulips or botanical tulips in the species garden. So these are the uncultivated or improved tulips. You can also come across these tulips in the wild around Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan etc, the countries of origin.
Want to come and see this unique collection? During the Tulip Festival, the species garden is open to visitors. On nice days, you can buy beautiful tulips here and Monibarista's oldtimer bus will also be present with delicious fresh coffee and some goodies to go with it.
Guided tours are provided to groups by appointment. Anyone interested in this can contact Frans Ebbers: 06-46071393.
